Crib Sheets
You may think that choosing sheets for your baby's crib is a straightforward matter. In fact, many parents buy crib sheets on the strength of the design. This should be the very last consideration, however. Just one factor that will be much more important to your baby is what kind of fabric their sheets are made from. Cheap, thin synthetic fabrics will not offer your baby much comfort. Heavier, natural cotton fabrics are best for baby, just as they are best for the rest of us. There is nothing like pure cotton for comfort; more than this, cotton allows the skin to breathe and offers a solution to many skin irritations. Good advice is to pick the thickest cotton sheets you can find, so that they'll last you a long time, allowing you to enjoy the maximum benefits of pure cotton. Before you buy, run your hand over the fabric. It should feel soft and smooth, with no texture that could rub a baby's delicate skin. Blue Penguin offers a particularly soft cotton jersey. In addition to being comfortable, Blue Penguin's fabric has been treated to be water resistant, which will protect your mattress while your baby enjoys the comfort on pure cotton. These fitted cribs sheets will not slide off, as they are slightly stretchy cotton jersey, which is a great advantage. In fact, using crib sheets that are not closely fitting can not only leave your baby exposed to the mattress, but can also pose an entanglement hazard. Remember to buy enough crib sheets so that you always have a fresh one to use. Sometimes you'll get by changing once every two or three days, and other times, you may find you need to change two or three times in one day, so be prepared! |
